Biography

Italian conductor Giacomo Sagripanti makes his Royal Opera debut in the 2019/20 Season conducting Lucia di Lammermoor.

Sagripanti studied piano, composition and orchestral conducting, and made his debut appearances in Italy at the Festival della Valle d’Itria, Aslico, and in Germany for Theater Lübeck. In 2016 he won the award of Best Young Conductor at the International Opera Awards. Selected opera conducting appearances include La Cenerentola for Semperoper Dresden, La Cenerentola and La Favorite for Bavarian State Opera, Cavalleria rusticana and Pagliacci for Vienna State Opera, Don Carlo and Un ballo in maschera for the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Madama Butterfly for La Fenice, Venice, Werther, Il barbiere di Siviglia, L’elisir d’amore, La traviata, Carmen and I Capuleti e i Montecchi for Paris Opéra, L’elisir d’amore for Zürich Opera, Don Pasquale for Glyndebourne Festival, Lucrezia Borgia for Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, Le Comte Ory and Carmen for Seattle Opera, I Capuleti e i Montecchi in Oviedo and Norma in Essen, and for the Frankfurt and Stuttgart operas. He has conducted Riccardo e Zoraide and the Petite Messe solennelle for the Rossini Opera Festival, Pesaro.

Sagripanti also appears regularly in concert with orchestras including the Filarmonica Fenice in Venice, the Essen Philharmonic, the RAI Orchestra in Turin, the St Petersburg Philharmonic and the Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla.
